When I first meet Ilka she was strolling down King st. checking out a new storefront.  As it turns out we have become neighbors and friends. Probably, the first question I asked her was, How do you say your store name??  She replied, everyone asks that question!  The pronunciation is like (Zoot). It's a Dutch word taken from her maternal roots.  Once we got passed all of that, we talked all about her new store.  For me, this place is a true reflection of Ilka's personality.  Sweet, soft spoken, gentle, very creative and just plain nice.  Make no mistake, this woman is an awesome business person too.  Sometimes I just walk in her store to decompress and relax... trust me you will do the same thing.

The following are the obligatory questions everyone of our FOM subjects has to answer.

Why Malvern?

I grew up in Paoli-I live close by and it's so convenient. My studio is just up the street. I'm blessed!

What's your favorite food?

That's a hard one. Can I pick 2? Mexican and Indian. I like Italian too!

How do you define success?

It may take a while... Success is working hard, it's not about what the money is, it's the drive, accomplishing something you love.

If you had to travel to Mars, and could only bring one album, what would it be?

I love Radiohead. Ok Computer.

Who do you idolize?

My children- They keep the wheels turning for me!

Akain is everyone's friend.  He literally landed on King St. with his now famous Scoops N Smiles Ice shop and was instantly everyone's friend. His energy level is infectious.  His ice cream is awesome! Enter the store, and you will feel like you have always been here, I mean, it's so comfortable and just what Malvern needed.  Not so many choices that you can't decide, but enough choices for a person like my wife who needs her options.  Akain's personality is non stop, so just having a store was not enough. You might see him pulling up in that awesome blue Ice cream truck at your local company or event. He also has several carts that can deliver the sweets right into your classroom, boardroom or party.  Whatever it is, it is the best thing possible to be located across the street from my place!

The following are the obligatory questions all of our FOM subjects has to answer.

Why Malvern?

Why NOT Malvern!  The vibe that it gives... Why NOT Malvern!

What's your favorite food?

Italian, put anything on top, but definitely Italian.

How do you define success?

Success to me is reaching a point in your life where there is no more standard. You're humble enough that whatever you are doing, that's your life and that's okay

If you had to travel to Mars, and could only bring one album, what would it be?

 Thriller!

Who do you idolize?

The underdog.  I appreciate the people who grind and get there. That's what I focus on.

Anthony Natale is owner/president of Anthony's Pizza and Italian restaurant on King St in Malvern.  Anthony and I have had some great conversations about our town, our families, and his continued expansion of the restaurant. Each time I see him, he stops, waves and always has that welcoming smile along with a heartfelt hello. Today we sat down just before the staff broke bread together for a short chat.

Why Malvern?

Originally I had no Idea what Malvern was.  I was looking for a restaurant for 6 years, when one of the original Anthony's owners reached out to my dad who was also in the restaurant business. He mentioned it to me, so I brought my family in for a meal. My kids and my wife and I had a great time here. And the rest is history.

What is your favorite food?

A short rib ragu, with some homemade pasta!

How do you define success?

Balancing family life with business.  If you don't have one without the other it wouldn't work.

If you were traveling to Mars, and you could only bring one album, what would it be?

I listen to audio books! (laughter). I think knowledge is power, so I have the Audible App....Also, maybe 90's Hip Hop... Jay-Z

Who do you idolize?

I Idolize my parents for what they did through their life.  You see what your parents did, and you are happy you turned out like them.

Also, Vito- we spend a lot of time together!

Kristin Thomas is truly a facesofMalvern person. This morning at about 7:00AM I messaged Kristin on facebook and asked if she was up for having her picture made. She instantly replied that she was on a train returning home from NYC and then had a luncheon appointment, but would be happy to sit for the session at about 3:00PM. This girl is everywhere!   What she didn't mention, was that the luncheon for Main Line Today, was honoring her as one of the "Women On The Move." And that she certainly is.  Just look at what she drives! A full size van to cart the kids around with flames on the side. (now you are reading this shaking your head because you see that van everywhere)  A true community spirit at heart, Kristin is constantly involved in making our town a better place to live, work and play. She started the Malvern Community Arts program a few years ago, which to date has 6 completed art projects including several murals, that beautify this great town. When she is not doing community service, she is busy working for two companies,Remote.co and Flexjobs.com,and raising a family of 4 +Bryan. Kristin is a proud breast cancer survivor. Diagnosed at age 40 with no family history or syptoms she credits a baseline mammogram at age 37 for saving her life at 40.  Thanks Kristin for all you do, and welcome to the facesofMalvern family.
